The AquaPacer is an above-ground underwater treadmill with a revolutionary design that allows for much safer, more effective exercise than comparable therapies. It allows you to completely control the height of the water & the speed of the treadmill, which results in a customized treatment for each individual horses needs. The AquaPacer provides 40-60% buoyancy while giving the horse an easier range of motion than traditional exercise. The mild impact of the underwater treadmill stimulates additional bone and cartilage growth while allowing for a low impact, full-body exercise with natural resistance that is lighter on legs and joints. This makes the AquaPacer a much safer alternative to post-surgical hand-walking, with reduced risk of recurring injury, better healing, and a speedier return to normal activity. The lack of concussion and controlled movement make it an excellent intermediate step before proceeding to full weight-bearing exercise. It is the perfect exercise when low impact conditioning is needed.

The AquaPacer reduces the risk of performance-related injuries during the conditioning of your horse. It also helps to recondition veteran athletes and freshen up animals long in training.

Horses suffering from sour attitudes toward training are mentally rejuvenated by the new activity, while conditioning is not only maintained but, in many cases, improved. The water treadmill is also very useful for improving top line and gait, building muscle strength and flexibility in the shoulders, back and hindquarters. The treadmill can be used to modify a horse’s movement pattern by adjusting the speed of the treadmill belt, and by adjusting the water level to create more or less buoyancy and resistance. Clear viewing panels allow us to observe if horses are moving equally with all 4 legs, sufficiently engaging the hind limbs, moving in balance through their top line and if they are tending to lean to one side or the other.

Benefits of the AquaPacer:

    • Provides a high-resistance, low impact workout.
    • Reduces weight bearing by 40-60%.
    • Increases range of motion and flexibility.
    • Increases strength, fitness and cardiovascular endurance.
    • Uses the same muscles, ligaments and tendons as land-based exercise - without the stress, trauma and concussion.
    • Reduces recovery time.

The AquaPacer regimen is an excellent tool when coupled with the Solarium and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

"The horses look good when they come back from AquaPacer rehabilitation. Most racehorses have injuries like bucked shins or are recovering from chips that have been surgically removed. These horses have been able to maintain a certain level of fitness in the AquaPacer, so we can get started up at the track a little sooner; but the main goal is to get back the best horse you can." - Bill Mott, Hall of Fame Trainer

"Quincy (aka "Positive Action"), an Oldenburg Gelding, fell while competing over jumps at an indoor horse show. He severely fractured his accessory carpal bone in what could have been a career ending injury. He began his rehabilitation in the AquaPacer three weeks after surgically removing the broken bone fragments from his left knee. In as little as four months, he was sound and back to work! Six months post-surgery, he was back in the show ring again...winning!" - Dr. Jim Hassinger, Hassinger Equine Sports Medicine - Aberdeen, NC
